Materials and systems Institute of Bordeaux

MIB Carnot certification : customer satisfaction by a high quality industry/research partnership management and a large competency network materials/systems spectrum.

Presentation

The “Materials and systems Institute of Bordeaux” (MIB) Carnot institute is a multidisciplinary competency network of 510 researchers from 9 laboratories of the University of Bordeaux in the fields of chemistry, physicochemistry, mechanics, electronics, computer science and engineering :

  • CRPP, soft matter chemistry and physics
  • ICMCB, solid state chemistry and condensed matter
  • IMS, sensors and microsystems, conception and reliability of components, command and diagnostic in complex systems
  • ISM, molecular spectroscopy, organic nanostructures, hybrid materials
  • LaBRI, distributed objects and systems, communication network, digital topology and geometry
  • LCPO, polymers with targeted applications
  • LCTS, thermostructural ceramic matrix composites, fiber/matrix interfaces
  • LMP, mechanics, corrosion and bonding, non-destructive evaluation
  • TREFLE, fluid mechanics and energetics modelling, heat transfer in materials

The MIB Carnot institute is supplied with an industry / research committee which is a meeting place between R&T industrial managers and academic researchers which aims at building up new cooperative projects on the basis of technological needs expressed by large groups and SMEs.
The MIB Carnot institute endeavours to establish the University of Bordeaux as a high quality world class campus in terms of industry/research partnership management and professionalism.

Positioning

  • The materials/systems positioning of the MIB Carnot institute is divided into 4 scientific topics – design – synthesis – characterization – modelling. These scientific topics are directly related to 4 technological fields and to 1 transverse field in the area of the industry organization.
  • Most industrial partners of the MIB Carnot institute are SMEs and large groups from sectors such as aerospace, automotive, energy, chemical industry, electronics, information and communication.

Challenges MIB 2010

  • To promote a win-win industry/research partnership policy with public/private co-funding
  • To strenghten/improve the outstanding scientific level related to major materials/systems key competencies of the University of Bordeaux
  • To develop new emerging scientific topics useful for Human and Environment
