Innovative Methods for Companies and Society (M.I.N.E.S)
Presentation

The Carnot label is the new starting point of an initiative launched in 1967 by Pierre Laffitte, who was then the Director of Research at the École des Mines de Paris, who invented the novel concept of “partnership research”, focusing on the economic world and society.
The Armines association was created in that same year, ensuring the efficient implementation of this research policy. Today, the various Écoles des Mines rank first among the Grandes Écoles in France in terms of the volume of entrepreneurial research contracts
undertaken and were given the Carnot label in 2006.

Laboratories of excellence

The M.I.N.E.S laboratories are, in part, linked to the CNRS and are regularly assessed. Their research is conducted in the framework of partnership research and has generated scientific disciplines such as geostatistics, mathematical morphology and open systems control, widely disseminated in both the scientific community and in industry and the services sectors.

Highly developed, professional partnership research

Collaboration between the Écoles and Armines has established durable links with industry in France and abroad. Their leading partners include Arcelor, EdF, Total, Renault, PSA, Snecma, GdF and Saint-Gobain.

Close links between teaching and research

The range of training courses for engineers, master’s degrees, post-master's professional certificates and doctorates are coordinated by the research academics who are actively engaged in the laboratories of the Carnot institute. Accordingly, the students are well acquainted with the reality of the industrial world and the related technical and industrial issues. The M.I.N.E.S Carnot institute focuses special attention on doctorates in order to prepare the students more adequately for their insertion into companies and has created the “Science & Enterprise” hallmark to better deal with this objective.
